We are a little more than a week away from leaving for Switzerland and I am experiencing a number of emotions. At this moment, I am a bit nervous thinking of all the things I need to get done before I leave. I am trying to get my affairs in order before I leave the country for almost two weeks. But, that emotion quickly passes when I think about this amazing experience I am about to embark on. Ever since I found out I was accepted in the GPP program, I’ve known what a tremendous personal and professional opportunity this is for us. However, after hearing the alumni speak in our most recent meeting, I am even more humbled, curious, and excited. When we started this process, Dean DePauw said time would fly by, and that we would be leaving before we knew it. While I didn’t doubt her, I had no idea how true that statement is. This process has been amazing so far and I have learned so much already. I have enjoyed hearing about higher education in Europe, the Switzerland educational system, and the Switzerland culture. Additionally, I have already learned so much from those in my cohort. As an aside, what I didn’t realize is how differently each program operates here at Virginia Tech, what is it going to be like in another country? Now that we are a week away, I am beginning to visualize my experience in Switzerland. All of these wonderful discussions have me excited to experience it for myself. I am excited to get to know my cohort better and to meet the cohort from UniBasel. I am thrilled to continue our dialogue about higher education with individuals in Switzerland. I am ready to investigate about my research topic- tenure and promotion in Europe. I am curious what it means to be a faculty member in Europe. I wonder what my take aways from this experience will be. Really, I am just ready to go! See you all in Zurich!!!!
