On the morning of departure…

Today, our amazing journey abroad is starting. We have prepared ourselves during the past weeks to open our minds to a global perspective. Being active members of the learning community and especially future faculty members, we are in need to bridge the gaps of mutual understanding and cooperation in a global arena. But, in order to be able to pursue this endeavor, we must first understand our differences and embrace them. That is why this journey is so important for us. Today, we will have the opportunity to experiment first-hand this process. We are starting our quest of shifting our focus from local communities to global ones. Indeed, this is our first step towards becoming global citizens that will guide others in the same path. There are a lot of expectations and anxiety regarding this trip, but what I can tell you for sure is that we all are eager and cheerful to start this adventure. We can feel an overwhelming desire to taste new flavors and new ideas. Of course, this is just the beginning of this transformational experience of rediscovering ourselves through global eyes. We are going to embrace diversity as a source of growth and enrichment while developing insights regarding an improved Higher Education tailored to the needs of 21st Century learners. I am looking forward to hear, discuss and learn about best possible educational methodologies/practices that could be/are developed, as well as best ways to prepare ourselves for changing Higher Education. Consequently, it is extremely important to understand the needs and concerns of other future faculty members in the world regarding education, teaching practices and ethical values. Furthermore, this once-in-a-lifetime experience will allow us to nourish our teaching self and character which will impact greatly not only in our own future teaching praxis, but in other’s around us. It is truly priceless to explore new views and innovative approaches to develop a transformational higher education that encompasses the needs of our ever-changing world and our quest of new knowledge in a global context. This is so exciting! Let’s the adventure begin! See you soon #GPP14 cohort! But for now: Auf Wiedersehen! Arrivederla! Au revoir! Hasta Luego! See you soon!
