On the eve of returning…

Our days on this trip have been filled with seeing, listening, sharing, and walking. There has been a considerable amount of pushing and unlearning, asking and re-asking. It has been a constant practice of movement and I catch myself wondering, “is this real?’ and “how did I get here?” I believe it is worth noting […]

Eve of Departure: Global Perspectives Program!

May 20, 2016 I am so excited to be going to Switzerland and Italy! 10 years ago, I did a whirlwind (singing) tour of England, however I wish I had more time to take in the culture. This is a great opportunity for me to see (taste and feel) more of Europe and get a better […]

On the eve of departure…

It is hard to believe that after months of planning for study abroad, brainstorming research ideas, applying for travel visa’s (oh the interesting process…maybe another blog post soon), figuring out all the other details related to international travel, and learning about Switzerland (and a few other European countries)  and the various universities I will be […]

Suitable Clothing

There was really only one major item I needed to take care of before heading to Switzerland for the Global Perspectives Program: I needed to buy fancy clothes. Looking back, I’m not sure how I got this far with only one of my dad’s old suit jackets. Conferences aren’t that frequent, I suppose, and business … Continue reading Suitable Clothing

Eve of departure: GPP’16 Year 11

Once again, I find myself on the “eve of departure” for the Preparing the Future Professoriate: Switzerland program also known as Global Perspectives Program (GPP).   This year marks the 11th trip to Switzerland with brief side trips to Italy … Continue reading

The Eve of Departure!

Some days just need to be 48 hours long! The past days have been full of excitement on different levels. However, this specific night is when everything should come together to form a “plan”! I’ve been thinking a lot about my first days in Europe, and how would the experience would be like, especially that […]

Preliminary Thoughts about Switzerland

Among the many interesting facts that have been shared about Switzerland during our preparation sessions, three have caught my attention: The two-track education system with no given “higher-ranks” to any of both. I believe that this doesn’t only enhance the education system, but it helps the society be self-sufficient when it comes to the large number […]

On the Eve of Departure – A Global Perspectives Experience

“All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go, I’m standing right outside your door, I hate to wake you up to say goodbye.”                               – John Denver Tomorrow I depart at an ungodly hour for my first ever adventure to Europe as part of the Global Perspectives Program through Virginia Tech. This whirlwind experience […]

Stopover success

We left DC at 8:30 pm and arrived in Iceland 6 hours later (6:30 am local time). We had reserved a rental car at the airport so we groggily made our way to the rental car counters. But there was no counter for Thrifty rental car. Just a bored looking teenager holding a (barely visible) sign with our name on it. Not sure what to expect, we followed this young chap to the shuttle and off we went to a…

Expectations About Study Abroad

Being a international student studying at Virginia Tech, I am looking for the GPP trip as a great opportunity to explore one more education tradition.  Here at Virginia Tech, I am learning deep into my area of field, exploring the different aspects of college education, training myself to teach future college students. As part of … Continue reading Expectations About Study Abroad
